What is cold process soap?

Cold process soap is made from exclusively saponified oils which have been allowed to cure into a stable and safe soap. Cold process soap does not include artificial surfactants or emollients. Saponification occurs when lye, sodium hydroxide, is added to any oils. This chemical reaction reorganizes the fat molecules and turns them into soap. This is the oldest known method for making soap and has been used for thousands of years.

What ingredients do we use in our soaps?

Our soaps use essential oils for fragrance, natural coloring ingredients ( for example activated charcoal to get black or grey, spinach powder to make green), and ethically sourced oils. All ingredients will be listed on the label for each soap, including with essential oils/ scents were used. At Cedar and Sage we strive to make our soaps as environmentally sustainable as possible. If you have questions about any of our ingredients please fill out a contact form and we will get back to you promptly.

Is cold process soap safe for people with sensitive skin?
